Sillu Karuppatti (lit. ’Dry Ginger Palm Candy’) is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language romantic anthology film written and directed by Halitha Shameem. The film stars Samuthirakani, Sunainaa, Manikandan K, Nivedhithaa Sathish, Kravmaga Sreeram, Leela Samson, Sara Arjun, and Rahul in the lead roles. Pradeep Kumar scored the songs and background score for the film. The film was commercially successful and received critical acclaim. The film was also streamed via Netflix in April 2020. It was also screened at few film festivals including Bengaluru International Film Festival and Toronto Tamil International Film Festival.

Production
The film was announced by director Halitha Shameem after rising to prominence in her debut film Poovarasam Peepee. The film is made with the genre of anthology consisting of four different stories. The film was scheduled to have its theatrical release in around 2018 but was postponed due to production delays.
Marketing
The official teaser of the film was unveiled on 26 December 2018 by Vijay Sethupathi and Arya. The two minute teaser was released without any dialogues and received rave reviews from the audience.
Soundtrack
The first single track of the film titled Agam Thaanai was released on 19 February 2019 coinciding with supermoon.
Release
The film had its worldwide theatrical release on 27 December 2019 and became a commercial success at the box office after running for over 50 days. The film was also premiered at the Bengaluru International Film Festival on 4 March 2020.
Awards & Honours
- Halitha Shameen won the JFW woman director of the year 2020 award for Sillu Karupatti.
- The film won two awards at the 2020 Toronto Tamil Film Festival. It won jury awards for Best Experimental Feature Film and Best Feature Film Woman Director.
Reception
The Times of India gave the film four out of five stars and wrote that “Sillu Karuppatti is so lovingly crafted with endearing performances, aesthetic visuals (though four cinematographers have worked on it, the film does an amazing job in keeping the visual tone consistent) and emotive music (by Pradeep Kumar) that superbly complement the perceptive writing.
