Shyamkanu Mahanta (Assamese: শ্যামকানু মহন্ত; born 1 March 1972) is an Indian cultural and social activist from Assam. Mahanta is known for organizing various festivals such as Srimanta Sankaradeva Movement, Samannay, North East Festival and Rongali to promote the culture of Northeast India.
Early life and education
Mahanta was born in Sivasagar to parents Mr. Lila Mahanta, former president of Assam Sattra Mahasabha, the apex body of Sattras of Assam and Mrs. Nirupama Mahanta, a Sattriya exponent and writer. Mahanta received his B.E degree from Jorhat Engineering College and later a MBA degree from Gauhati University.

- Hydropower projects
Mahanta was involved in implementation of large power plants and hydropower projects in Northeast India.
- Tourism awareness
Mahanta took the initiative to promote the Northeast India’s trade, tourism and culture in Thailand. North East India festival was organized by him in Bangkok in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. This festival’s main purpose was to promote people to people exchange between both regions under Act East policy.
